Before filling out the form, please upload the following files at https://purdue.app.box.com/f/ec71d59a64934929812825a7b0460911 with the naming convention  team_name.pdf” (for the white paper) and your model/simulation file as “team_name.*”. Note that you should upload your white paper (as a PDF following the provided template) and also upload the three model files listed below:

  1. A Simulation File: You may provide your computational model in any common simulation format (e.g., comsol, ansys, etc.).
  2. STL Format of your Geometry
  3. STEP Format of your Geometry

As part of this design challenge you will be asked to design, build, and validate an aluminum heat sink made with Additive Manufacturing techniques graciously made available to us by GE. Competition guidelines will be released on September 30, 2022.

After receiving the guidelines, you will then have to prepare a white paper that justifies your design due on Jan 7, 2023. This can be done with preliminary test results, modelling, empirical correlations, etc. The top white papers and designs will be selected to print their part with GE Additive machines in the spring. The semi-finalist teams may need to revise their designs to meet printing requirements during the window of Jan 21 – Feb 4, 2023.

Those heat sinks will then be sent for testing in order to determine the top designs with finalists notified on April 30, 2023. These top teams will receive partial travel support to enable one member to travel to ITHERM (in Orlando, FL from May 30 – June 2, 2023) where they will defend their design in front of industry leaders.  From those oral presentations, the champion will be crowned!  Good luck!
